What is a GSIS loan?

The Government Service Insurance System (GSIS) is the state-run social insurance institution for Philippine government employees — similar in purpose to SSS, but exclusively for those on a government payroll. GSIS offers several loan programs to its active members, including salary/consolidated loans and emergency loans, funded by members' own contributions and premiums.

Who is eligible?

Eligibility is limited to active GSIS members — i.e., employees of national government agencies, local government units, government-owned and controlled corporations, and state universities — who meet GSIS's minimum service and contribution requirements. Private-sector employees and the self-employed are covered by SSS instead, not GSIS.

Interest rates, loanable amounts and terms

GSIS periodically revises its loan programs, interest rates and loanable amounts, so we don't quote specific figures here — always check the current terms on the official gsis.gov.ph website or your agency's HR/GSIS coordinator before applying, since rates and caps shown on third-party sites can go out of date.

How to apply

GSIS loans are typically filed online through the member's GSIS eCard/MyGSIS web portal. Processing and crediting timelines vary by loan type and GSIS's current workload.

Not a government employee, or need funds faster?

If you're in the private sector (SSS member instead of GSIS), or need cash before a GSIS loan is released, you can compare licensed Philippine online lenders below for same-day approval.

Frequently asked questions – GSIS Salary Loan

No. GSIS covers government employees (national agencies, LGUs, GOCCs, state universities), while SSS covers private-sector employees and self-employed/voluntary members. You can only be an active member of one, based on your employment.
GSIS updates its loan programs and rates from time to time, so the most reliable source is the official gsis.gov.ph website or your agency's GSIS/HR coordinator — not third-party sites.
